Gilson Peranzzetta celebrates his 80th birthday with a special concert at the Rio Botanical Garden
The pianist and composer is also celebrating 70 years in the career
To celebrate his 80th birthday and 70-year career, conductor, pianist, composer, and arranger Gilson Peranzzetta will present the show “Gilson Peranzzetta 80 Years” as part of the “Sunday in the Garden” series on April 26.
The repertoire brings together highlights from his career, including compositions such as “Paisagem Brasileira,” “Sorriso de Luz,” and “Nós, as Crianças,” as well as classics like “Estamos Aí,” “Bala com Bala” (Peranzzetta and Mauro Senise), and “Asa Branca,” in arrangements created especially for the performance at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden.
The performance will feature a special appearance by saxophonist and flutist Mauro Senise. With over 30 solo CDs and four Latin Grammy nominations—an award he won in 2017—Senise has performed with major figures in Brazilian music, such as Egberto Gismonti, Hermeto Pascoal, Luiz Eça, and Edu Lobo, among others.
Peranzzetta and Senise will be accompanied by bassist Alexandre Cavallo and drummer Ricardo Costa.
With a widely recognized body of work, Peranzzetta has had his compositions recorded by over 200 artists in Brazil and abroad, establishing himself as one of the great names in contemporary music. The renowned producer Quincy Jones, for example, considered him one of the world’s greatest arrangers.
The show is free and will take place starting at 11 a.m. in front of the bust of Dom João. In case of rain, it will be moved to the Galpão das Artes. There is an admission fee required to access the arboretum.
