Gilson Peranzzetta and Mauro Senise on Easter Sunday at Rio's Botanical Garden
Instrumental music on Sunday in the Garden
Two of the main references in Brazilian instrumental music, Gilson Peranzzetta and Mauro Senise are the attraction at Domingo no Jardim this Easter Sunday (20/4). The duo will perform “Nós, as crianças!” (We, the children!), a mix of MPB classics and Peranzzetta's compositions. The repertoire includes “Bala com bala” (João Bosco/Aldir Blanc), “Vou deitar e rolar” (Baden Powell/Vinicius de Moraes), Marina (Dorival Caymmi), “Nós, as crianças” (Gilson Peranzzetta), “Samba de uma nota só” (Tom Jobim/Newton Mendonça), among others. The compositions are given new arrangements by Peranzzetta, with unusual introductions and endings, as well as creative improvisations by the duo.
With a solid international career, the duo has performed annually at the most important festivals in Brazil, the United States and Europe, such as the Vienna Jazz Festival, the Summer Festival and the San Francisco Jazz Center, among many others. With 33 years of partnership, conductor, composer, arranger and pianist Gilson Peranzzetta and saxophonist and flautist Mauro Senise have released 13 duo CDs, as well as outstanding individual careers. The show at Rio's Botanical Garden will show an overview of their long partnership.
Cited by conductor Quincy Jones as one of the world's greatest arrangers, Peranzzetta has received numerous awards, including five Brazilian Music Awards for best arranger, composer and soloist, and the Professional Music Award for best performer. He released 63 albums between 1968 and 2024. Considered one of the most refined composers in Brazilian music, Peranzzetta has composed 300 songs, many of which have been recorded by artists such as Djavan, Ivan Lins, Leila Pinheiro, Nana Caymmi, Edu Lobo, Emílio Santiago, George Benson, Sara Vaughn, Quincy Jones, Toots Thielemans, Shirley Horn and Barbra Streisand.
The grandson of writer Alceu Amoroso Lima, Mauro Senise played and recorded for many years with great masters such as Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti, Wagner Tiso and Luiz Eça. Together with Pascoal Meirelles, he founded the group Cama de Gato in 1985. In 1988, he recorded his first solo album, Mauro Senise, and, the following year, his second, Jade. In 1990, in partnership with Gilson Peranzzetta, he began the series of 13 CDs released by the duo with the album Vera Cruz. His most recent, released in 2022, “Choro Negro - Cristóvão Bastos e Mauro Senise tocam Paulinho da Viola”, celebrates the composer's 80th birthday.
The performance is free and starts at 11am, in front of the bust of D. João. In the event of rain, it will be moved to the Galpão das Artes.
