Coral Coroá sings about the sea on Sunday in the Garden
The performance will feature a special appearance by the Children's/Youth Choir of the Portable School of Music.
The sea is the inspiration for the Coroá Choir's performance at Domingo no Jardim on December 14. “Tom Jobim takes us on a caravan to meet Caymmi, to walk on the sand, to honor the fisherman, and to dance with the audience,” say the choir members. In this show at the Rio Botanical Garden, the group will feature a special appearance by the Children's/Youth Choir of the Escola Portátil de Música, composed of children and teenagers who develop their musicality and artistic experience from a repertoire inspired by Brazilian popular music.
Created in 2005, Coroá is under the musical direction and conducting of instrumentalist and arranger Ignez Perdigão, assisted by Ruy Oliveira and Evelyne Garcia. The choir's name was inspired by a bromeliad from the Caatinga, popularly known as caroá (Neoglaziovia burlemarxii), “a healing and beautiful plant, just like music,” explains the group on its website.
The performance will take place in front of the bust of Dom João at 11 a.m. In case of rain, it will be moved to the Galpão das Artes. The show is free, with only the arboretum charging admission.
