Casa Pacheco Leão promotes Tea Ceremony this Friday (August 29)
The public will be able to taste the drink.
The Tea Ceremony will take place this Friday (August 29) at Casa Pacheco Leão, in Rio de Janeiro's Botanical Garden. The activity introduces visitors to tea preparation according to Chinese tradition, including tea tasting. The attraction is free and will take place in two sessions, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. There are only 20 participants in each session. Tickets can be obtained at jbrj.eleventickets.com. The ceremony will be presented by Professor Li Lu and accompanied by music by Professor Gao Chunhan, who will play the Chinese string instrument pipa.
At the House, the public can visit the exhibition “Tea Route - Botany, Culture, and Tradition,” an immersion in the rich cultural tapestry of tea, exploring its origins, its global journey, and its role in building connections between different cultures, especially between Brazil and China. There are more than 100 pieces on display from various periods, styles, and origins.
The Rio Botanical Garden is part of this history, as it was the first place in Brazil where tea cultivation (Camellia sinensis) was introduced by Chinese immigrants brought by the Portuguese crown specifically for this work in the early 19th century.
