Carol Saboya celebrates 25 years of career in a concert featuring Antonio Adolfo on Domingo no Jardim
Singer Carol Saboya celebrates 25 years of career with a show at Domingo no Jardim on January 11. The performance also marks the 23rd anniversary of the release of the album Bossa Nova, recorded for the Japanese market.
The repertoire includes bossa nova classics such as Pra que chorar (Baden Powell and Vinícius de Moraes) and Fotografia (Tom Jobim), as well as gems from the Brazilian songbook, such as Sá Marina, composed by her father, Antonio Adolfo, with lyrics by Tibério Gaspar. Carol will be accompanied by Zezo Olimpio (piano), Pedro Moraez (bass), and Gustavo Schnaider (drums), with a special appearance by Antonio Adolfo.
The daughter of composer Antonio Adolfo, Carol Saboya was raised in a musical environment, surrounded by chords, sheet music, and the living process of artistic creation. At the age of 8, she recorded her voice for the first time in a duet with Miéle on the EP A menina e a TV. While still a girl, she participated as a vocalist on albums by Erasmo Carlos and Ângela Ro Ro.
Later, she spent three years studying singing in the United States, when she participated in Sérgio Mendes' CD Brasileiro. Back in Brazil, she recorded with American pianist Joyce Collins and participated in a tribute to Aldir Blanc.
Her solo work came in 1998. Produced by Almir Chediak, Dança da Voz won her the Sharp Award for Best New Singer of the Year. The following year, she focused on the work of Tom Jobim and recorded the album Janelas Abertas, accompanied by Nelson Faria on guitar.
In 2005, she recorded her first live DVD at the Leblon Theater, conceived and directed by Paulinho Moska. The show brought together songs from her two albums released in Japan, Bossa Nova and Nova Bossa, and featured special appearances by Marcos Valle, Rildo Hora, and Os Cariocas.
Her first work recorded entirely with her father came in 2006, with the album Antonio Adolfo e Carol Saboya - Ao vivo/live. The CD was based on the show Bossa Nova Forever, a tribute to bossa nova and samba-jazz. In 2012, she released the CD Belezas - The music of Ivan Lins e Milton Nascimento. In 2024, she released her 14th album, entitled Outro Tom, with songs by Antonio Adolfo, in honor of the composer's 60-year career.
In addition to being a singer, Carol Saboya has been a singing teacher at the Antonio Adolfo Music Center for over 20 years. She has also been the musical director for several shows, such as O grande circo místico, O pequeno príncipe, and A fantástica fábrica de chocolate.
The performance will take place in front of the bust of Dom João at 11 a.m. In case of rain, it will be canceled. The show is free, with only the arboretum entrance fee charged.
