Botanical Garden Museum takes part in National Museum Week
“The future of museums in rapidly changing communities” is the theme of the 23rd National Museum Week, which runs until next Sunday (18/5) in various cultural institutions across the country. The Botanical Garden Museum is taking part with a varied program.
National Museum Week is an annual event promoted by the Brazilian Institute of Museums (Ibram) that takes place in commemoration of International Museum Day, celebrated on May 18. The event offers a wide variety of cultural and educational activities to the public, promoting the appreciation of cultural heritage and strengthening the relationship between museum institutions and society.

Thursday, May 15th
- Workshop: My Museum | 10h
In this workshop, participants will be invited to discover what a museum is, the different types that exist and the treasures they can house. The idea is to stimulate the imagination by creating a personal museum, bringing together objects and stories that have a special meaning for the visitor.
Meeting point: Multipurpose Room

Saturday, May 17th
- Ancestral knowledge: Between herbs and salts | 10:30 a.m.
The workshop teaches how to make sachets for foot baths, using dehydrated herbs and coarse salt. The aim is to provide a sensory experience that recovers ancestral knowledge, connecting participants to the aromas of plants. During the activity, visitors will create their own sachets, a popular practice known to promote relaxation and stimulate circulation. At the end, each visitor will take home their own sachet as a souvenir of the experience.

- Planting Stories: Samba, culture and the tamarind tree | 14:30
The proposal is to build memories with a lot of art and nature, through the connection between samba and the tamarind tree (Tamarindus indica). Each participant will create their own flag, and all this will be celebrated in a samba circle under the tamarind tree in the Botanical Garden.

Audience: from 7 years old

Sunday, May 18th
- Educational visit: cognitive sensory | 9am
The visit offers adaptations to the exhibitions, such as sound adjustments and the inclusion of sensory objects, to balance the stimuli and provide a more peaceful experience. The group will be led by an educator through the museum's exhibitions, exploring them in a multi-sensory way. Along the way, visitors will have the opportunity to interact with materials specially developed for the experience.

Public: People with intellectual and/or mental disabilities and their companions

- Semear | 10h30
The idea is to create unique moments for babies. With music, stories, scents and textures, this sensory activity connects the little ones to nature in an affectionate and creative way.

- Educational visit: Mata Atlântica | 14h30
The visit presents the history of the Mata Atlântica and its rich biodiversity, based on the installations and interactivities in the temporary exhibition Mata Atlântica: in-finitos encantos.
