Botanical Garden Museum promotes vacation program focusing on children, biodiversity and traditional knowledge of the Atlantic Forest
Vacation program at the Botanical Garden Museum
Between July 12 and August 3, 2025, the Botanical Garden Museum is promoting the third edition of its special vacation program: From Flower to Flower. With more than 60 free activities, the initiative invites the public to experience childhood in harmony with the natural environment, celebrating play as a gesture of affection, freedom, movement and care for life around them.
Inspired by the wisdom of the native peoples and the cultural traditions of the Atlantic Rainforest - the central theme of the season - the edition builds bridges with the temporary exhibition Mata Atlântica: in-finitos encantos, reinforcing the Museum's commitment to valuing diverse knowledge, ecological wealth and environmental education.
Open to children, families and visitors of all ages, the program brings together outdoor play, interactive games, creative workshops and educational experiences. The fun activities take place daily (except Wednesdays), from 10am to 5pm, in the gardens in front of the Museum. Themed guided tours always take place at 3pm, with itineraries that combine sensory, scientific and poetic approaches to the biome and the work of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute.
Among the highlights is the educational visit with translation into Libras, on Sunday, July 27, expanding access for hearing-impaired people to the contents of the exhibition Mata Atlântica: in-finitos encantos.
On Monday to Friday mornings, the public can take part in botanical games, which combine fun and knowledge about Brazilian biodiversity. On Saturdays, the museum invites children to explore their creativity in the art and nature workshops, held from 10am to 12pm. Two of these workshops have the special participation of art educator Carmel Puri, who leads the making of necklaces with seeds (19/07) and the creation of shuttlecocks with corn straw (02/08), promoting sensory and sustainable experiences based on indigenous knowledge.
On Sunday mornings, there are activities for different audiences: at 9am, there is a cognitive sensory visit, adapted for people with intellectual and mental disabilities, in accordance with Municipal Law no. 6.278; at 10.30am, the Semear activity invites babies and young children to discover the world of plants through stories, songs, scents and textures, led by the Cirandinhas Bebê e Cia and Lekolé groups.
