Announcement for scholarship recipients to work on the BiodiversaBrasil Project: Applications will be accepted until May 19
The main focus will be the creation of the “Catalog of Life in Brazil”
On Wednesday, May 13, the Foundation for the Support of Scientific Computing (FACC) issued a call for applications for the selection and awarding of research grants and funding, aimed at researchers with diverse professional backgrounds, to work within the scope of the BiodiversaBrasil Project: Integration of Brazilian Biological Diversity Information Systems.
The application deadline is May 19, 2026. Applications must be submitted via email.
The BiodiversaBrasil Project aims to provide the scientific basis necessary for the formulation of public policies focused on the conservation and sustainable use of Brazilian biodiversity, concentrating on the structuring and integration of catalogs and databases on national biodiversity, hosted at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden.
The main focus will be the creation of the Catalog of Life in Brazil, a publicly accessible digital platform that will bring together scientific information validated by experts, allowing for detailed searches on the country’s bacteria, algae, fungi, plants, animals, and fossils. Information on plant chemodiversity (natural products), plant-pollinator interactions, and wood from native species (as the basis for a virtual xylotheque) will also be made available on this platform, which is currently under development as part of the BiodiversaBrasil Project.
This database aims not only to support scientific and technological research, but also to provide technical support for decision-making in areas such as environmental conservation, public health, agriculture, and biotechnology. In addition to strengthening biodiversity research infrastructure, the project seeks to expand collaboration among academic institutions, government agencies, and scientific networks, promoting the standardization and validation of biological data.
