Agreement between Jardim Botânico do Rio and Renascença Clube will promote actions to disseminate and value Afro-Brazilian culture
Partnership in the field of art and education
The Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute (JBRJ) welcomed the Renascença Clube, a traditional space of resistance for black culture in the city, to register the partnership signed on May 23, which aims to jointly develop actions to value and disseminate Afro-Brazilian culture and history through art and education.
Workshops and lectures are planned aimed at developing artistic skills and the creative economy, among other initiatives that boost youth protagonism with a focus on inclusion and diversity. In addition, the JBRJ, through the João Carlos Silva Social and Environmental Responsibility Center (CRS), will provide technical consultancy to the Renascença Clube on the implementation of a business model based on the Florescer Project, geared towards youth development and expanding opportunities in the job market.
This partnership is yet another initiative of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden's Affirmative Action Plan aimed at valuing Afro-Brazilian culture and promoting equity, which began with the inauguration of the Black Hands Memorial in November 2024. The monument was built in the Garden's Arboretum to give visibility to and honor the fundamental contribution of black men and women in the building of the institution.
The Renascença Clube was founded in 1951 with the aim of valuing “the richness of the African legacy and promoting the citizenship of the black population, developing projects and affirmative actions in various areas such as education, health, entertainment and the job market”.
