A week to celebrate Indigenous Peoples through environmental education
To celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day, observed on April 19, the Environmental Education Service of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden invites school groups and children to a special week dedicated to Brazil’s indigenous peoples.
The program runs from April 13 to 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with activities for children ages 3 to 14.
More than just a tribute, the initiative aims to recognize the diversity, knowledge, and ways of life of Indigenous peoples, which remain alive, present, and in constant transformation within contemporary society.
The tour begins at the Educational Laboratory with a Tupi-Guarani Bingo game, playfully introducing elements such as plants and animals, as well as aspects of these peoples’ daily lives.
Next, participants proceed to the Indigenous Culture Roots Trail, a path through the arboretum that highlights trees linked to history, traditional knowledge, and the relationship with nature.
The initiative offers an educational and sensitive experience, fostering respect for Indigenous peoples and their connection to the environment.
Activity duration: approximately 60 to 75 minutes.
