5th INPol Seminar discusses the importance of Citizen Science
INCT Pollination: knowledge, conservation, and sustainable use of pollinators (INPol) is promoting its 5th Seminar on November 14, with guests Cláudia Inês da Silva (UFBA) and Tiago Francoy (USP) for a chat about citizen science data, focusing on pollinators. “When Science Meets the Public: The Value of Citizen Science Data” will be the theme of the meeting, the last of 2025. The event is virtual, free, and will be broadcast live on YouTube.
Professor Cláudia Inês da Silva will talk about feeding patterns and information on pollinating and dispersing birds in Chapada Diamantina from the collaborative platform Wiki Aves - the largest community of birdwatchers in Brazil. Professor Tiago Francoy will discuss the citizen science app BeeKeep, presenting projects using the platform for data entry and future plans for the tool.
Cláudia Inês da Silva has a degree in Biological Sciences, with postdoctoral studies at the Department of Biology at FFCLRP - USP, the Department of Ecology at IBUSP, the Department of General and Applied Biology at Unesp-Rio Claro, the Emílio Goeldi Museum of Pará (MPEG), and the Vale Technological Institute in Belém, Pará. She is currently a visiting professor in the Graduate Program in Ecology: Theory, Application, and Values at the Institute of Biology at the Federal University of Bahia.
Tiago Francoy has a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo and a PhD in Genetics. A full professor at the School of Arts, Sciences, and Humanities at USP, he is also a member of the working group responsible for creating the university's Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology.
