Gustavo Augusto takes over CADE's presidency
On 14 July, Commissioner Gustavo Augusto Freitas de Lima becomes the president of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE). Mr Freitas will fill the vacancy left by Alexandre Cordeiro, due to the end of his four-year term of office.
The Commissioner, who has been a member of the Tribunal of CADE since April 2022, has a solid academic background and extensive experience in the public service. He has a degree in law and naval sciences, a postgraduate qualification in public law and a master's degree in law, as well as courses at the Harvard Law School and the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV).
The new president of CADE has been a Counsel for the Federal Government since 2006 and worked as deputy assistant head of economic policy to the Presidency of Brazil for five years.
He was also director of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Brazil's Litigation Department, nationally coordinating the litigation work of the attorneys of independent agencies and federal foundations, acting directly before the Brazilian Supreme Court (STF) and the superior courts.
CADE’s permanent presidency will be defined under the terms of the current legislation, based on the official nomination by the President of Brazil, and the subsequent approval by the Brazilian Senate.
