Economist Frédéric Jenny honoured at 1st edition of CADE International Award
On 11 June, Mr Frédéric Jenny, chair of the Competition Committee of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), received the inaugural International Award of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE).
Established this year, CADE International Award aims to recognise foreign figures who have made significant contributions to the development of competition policies in Brazil and worldwide.
Holding the title of professor emeritus at ESSEC Business School, Mr Frédéric Jenny is a global authority in the field of antitrust law. At the OECD, he played a pivotal role in modernising Brazil’s competition regime. As chair of the organisation’s Competition Committee, his work helped the Brazilian antitrust authority become more transparent, effective, and closely aligned with international best practices.
Mr Jenny’s work was also paramount in strengthening regional cooperation, notably through the Latin American and Caribbean Competition Forum (LACCF), which has become an important forum for dialogue among competition authorities. He attended every edition of the event, fostering the exchange of experiences and best practices among the participating countries.
During the award ceremony, Alexandre Cordeiro, president of CADE, highlighted the qualities of the honouree that qualified him for the distinction. “Professor Frédéric Jenny represents the most admirable aspects of international cooperation: long-term vision, technical leadership, and a commitment to strong institutions. We are grateful for your leadership, guidance, and commitment to build a better and fairer system—both for Brazil and the world,” he said.
CADE International Award
CADE International Award recognises foreign figures who have made significant contributions to the consolidation and advancement of competition-policy enforcement in Brazil. The award underscores the strategic role of cooperation between countries and international organisations in promoting fairer, more efficient, and more competitive markets.
The initiative is in line with other efforts from the authority to strengthen its capacity to engage on the international stage, exerting influence on the global antitrust agenda by expanding its presence in international forums, deepening cooperation with other competition authorities, intensifying its active participation in international events, and increasing the international reach of CADE’s institutional information.
