Cade takes the leadership in the ICN working group on mergers and acquisitions

The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) takes on the role of co-chair of the Merger Working Group of the International Competition Network (ICN). From June onwards, the agency will take the leadership in the ICN Merger Working Group (MWG) for three years (2020–2023), together with the Spanish and British authorities.

The purpose of the MWG is to promote the adoption of best practices in the assessment of mergers and acquisitions, aiming to improve the effectiveness of the analysis, facilitate substantive and procedural convergence, and reduce time and costs for transaction analysis.

During the term, the Brazilian competition authority will share its experience and success with M&A review - regarded as one of the fastest in the world - based on reasoned economic assessments to grant transparency and legal certainty to decisions.

Cade has a background of active participation in the ICN, assuming a leadership role in the network in recent years and providing important contributions to major international debates on competition matters. From 2017 to 2020, the agency chaired the ICN Cartel Working Group and shared its expertise on fighting cartels with other participants.

The International Competition Network (ICN) was created in 2001, to establish a global virtual forum for information exchange between various competition authorities throughout the world, promoting international co-operation for competition defence.

The network currently comprises 140 competition authorities that work together to encourage convergence in global antitrust rules and practices.
