CADE takes part in international workshop on cartels
On 2 and 3 October, CADE participated in the ICN Cartel Workshop 2024, organised by the Comisión Federal de Competencia Económica (Cofece), as a working group activity of the International Competition Network (ICN).
Alexandre Barreto, the Superintendent-General of CADE, was the moderator of the session on new technologies in cartel cases. Moreover, competition authorities from Mexico and the United States, and NGA advisors from Belgium and France, debated the available tools of antitrust authorities for prevention and prosecution of cartels.
Fernanda Machado, the Assistant Superintendent of CADE, presented the authority’s experience with artificial intelligence to detect bid riggings, such as the Cérebro Project, developed by CADE, in addition to challenges, initiatives implemented and strategic partnership with Brazilian authorities, and trainings to promote knowledge sharing on prevention and detection of bid riggings.
ICN
The International Competition Network (ICN) is the biggest global forum specialised in competition defence. The projects of the forum are based on five working groups: cartel, mergers and acquisitions, unilateral conduct, competition law, and antitrust agencies effectiveness.
Established in 2001, the event currently gathers 140 authorities from 130 jurisdictions, in addition to the volunteer work of non-governmental advisors, aiming to promote an international convergence of best practices and antitrust regulations.
