CADE signs technical cooperation agreement with Ministry of Sports
The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) signed a technical cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Sports aimed at expanding their joint actions to promote competition, integrity, as well as transparency in the sports and sports betting sectors, establishing a permanent channel for dialogue.
The agreement is valid for five years and focuses on enabling information exchange, supporting studies, as well as initiatives to improve regulation and promote competition in the sports market.
Gustavo Augusto, President of CADE, highlights that the cooperation is essential, as it prevents legal and competition risks. “This context requires constant updates to ensure legal certainty through the reformulation of public policies and partnerships such as the one we are now implementing with the Ministry of Sports,” he stated.
Giovanni Rocco, Secretary for Sports Betting and Economic Development in Sports, also emphasised the importance of the initiative. “Due to the rapid changes within the sports sector, it is essential to anticipate competitive risks and improve regulatory frameworks. This applies to the structuring of sports leagues, governance of related markets, and also the review of mergers in emerging sectors, such as eSports, where the tournament management, content distribution, platforms, and digital assets often overlap.”
Institutional cooperation
The agreement also includes events, training courses, and exchange of experiences between technical teams, in addition to the production of educational materials on good regulatory practices and integrity in sports.
Equally relevant is the cooperation on analyses and investigations on the sports betting sector, focused on identifying anticompetitive practices and preventing match-fixing, as well as market distortions, to promote a competitive and transparent environment for economic agents and consumers.
Furthermore, the joint action between CADE and the Ministry of Sports aims to reinforce coordination between regulation and competition policy in a context of increasing digitalisation and economic expansion. Access the full document here!
