CADE recommends conviction of individuals in international cartel
On 8 December, the Office of the Superintendent General at CADE (SG) recommended the conviction of 4 individuals for international cartel in the market of vehicle security system, with possible effects in Brazil.
The systems, known as Occupant Safety Systems (OSS), protect the occupants during accidents or dangerous situations, and include airbags, seat belts, as well as other measures that work together to reduce injuries and increase survival rates.
According to the SG, the group coordinated actions to fix prices, allocate customers, and exchange of competitively sensitive information, thereby harming competition. This is the latest case under investigation related to international collusive behaviour, with impacts in Brazil, affecting several automotive parts markets. Antitrust violations happened from 2005 to 2011.
The Tribunal of CADE will analyse the case, and assign to a Rapporteur for a final decision. If convicted, the individuals are subject to fines of up to 20% of the amount applied to the company. Access Case no. 08700.002938/2017-35.
