CADE introduces its Case Law Database

On Wednesday (26 May), the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) introduced its Case Law Database, an important milestone for antitrust policy in Brazil.

The information available in the search engine is organised into six collections to make it user-friendlier: Case law, Expert Opinions, Guides and Publications, Legislation, Press Releases, and Decisions of the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU). Moreover, the system offers a variety of filters to make search results more precise.

For the President of CADE, Alexandre Barreto, the Case Law Database consolidates CADE's institutional memory and makes its processes, understandings, and policies more transparent. ‘The search engine will serve as an information management system and a mechanism for transparency and legal certainty,’ he pointed out.

The platform was developed in partnership with the University of Brasilia (UnB), and with the collaboration of several of CADE's partner organisations which tested the system features. Amongst the partner organisations which tested the system are the Competition Commissions of the Regional Offices of the Brazilian Bar Association in Brasilia, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Ceará, Santa Catarina, and Rio de Janeiro; the Brazilian Institute of Studies on Competition, Consumer Affairs and International Trade (IBRAC); and the Lawyers Association of São Paulo.
