ADVOCACY
CADE co-chairs ICN Advocacy Working Group
On 8 May, the International Competition Network (ICN) annual conference was concluded in Manila, Philippines. At the closing ceremony, Mrs Andrea Marván, the Chair of the Steering Group of ICN, announced that the Administrative Council for Economic Defence (CADE) now co-chairs the Advocacy Working Group (AWG) for the next three years, along with competition authorities from Greece, Poland, and Singapore.
The ICN is the broadest global forum specialised in competition defence, developing projects through five Working Groups on: cartels, mergers and acquisitions, unilateral conducts, competition law, and effectiveness of the antitrust agencies.
The AWG aims to enhance the effectiveness of the ICN member agencies in the defence and promotion of antitrust principles, strengthening a global culture of competition by developing tools and guidelines, while exchanging experiences and best practices.
Furthermore, advocacy reinforces the importance of free competition to citizens, businesses, and policymakers, while acting as an essential tool to support regulatory agencies to fight against anticompetitive practices and address public restrictions on competition.
CADE has taken over leadership roles within the working groups since 2012, and co-chaired the Unilateral Conduct Working Group over the last three years. During this period, the agency shared its experiences, challenges, and best practices regarding the analysis of unilateral conducts by companies with market power, the abusive practices adopted by agents with dominant positions in the market, amongst other matters, promoting significant initiatives such as workshops, webinars, and studies.
By joining another ICN working group, the authority seeks to strengthen its presence in the international scenario, contributing to relevant discussions on competition policy, and reaffirming its commitment to developing relevant actions for Brazil.
