The Nordeste Conectado (Northeast Connected) Program is a partnership between the Ministry of Communications (MCom) and the National Education and Research Network (RNP), which aims to promote the expansion and internalization of the telecommunication cyberinfrastructure in the Northeast Region.

The program goals will be reached by implementing equipment to promote data traffic along the optical fiber network of Companhia Hidrelétrica do São Francisco (CHESF). This will allow for a data transmission rate of up to 100 Gbps, in addition to implementing/increasing metropolitan networks and installing Wi-Fi in public squares in 19 hub towns, spread throughout five states in the Northeast region: Bahia, Ceará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí and Rio Grande do Norte. Therefore,  federal universities and institutes, as well as research units will be able to enjoy a high-speed network, connected to other institutions in Brazil and worldwide. This service will also reach schools (municipal and state) and public squares, through partnerships with private providers, driving the economy and local development.
