Anvisa takes part in the 79th World Health Assembly on health regulation and global health

The Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa) is participating, from May 18 to 23, in the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA), held in Geneva, Switzerland. The meeting, promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO), brings together health authorities from many countries to discuss topics such as equitable access to health products, pandemic readiness, artificial intelligence applied to health, and antimicrobial resistance.
In Anvisa’s agenda are bilateral meetings, both in the WHA plenary sessions and in parallel events organized by WHO and other international organizations. The agendas addressed the following themes: digital transformation in health, social participation and multilateral cooperation in advancing health sovereignty, ultra-processed foods, Anvisa's evaluation process to become a WHO Listed Authority (WLA), electronic betting and its impact on health.

Anvisa was represented by chairman Leandro Safatle and director Thiago Campos. Anvisa's participation focuses on joint action with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in building Brazilian positions related to health regulation and global health.

The World Health Assembly is considered the main international forum related to public health. Every year, it brings together WHO member countries to discuss global priorities, regulatory strategies and coordinated responses to international health challenges. This year, the debates will prioritize topics such as pandemic readiness, health system strengthening, digital transformation in health, artificial intelligence applied to health, antimicrobial resistance and access equality to medicines and vaccines.
