Over the last three days, the Brazilian government received authorization from the governments of Nigeria, Mexico and the United States to export national agricultural products. Following these announcements, Brazil has gained access to 13 markets in 2025, and created a total 313 new opportunities since the beginning of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's government.
As well as diversifying Brazil's partnerships, the expansion of Brazilian agribusiness to these three countries offers future opportunities for national producers, and opens up great potential for demographic expansion and economic growth in the partner nations.
NIGERIA — According to the Nigerian government, Brazil has been authorized to export cattle and buffalo embryos, both “in vivo” and “in vitro”, to Nigeria. Considering Africa’s great market potential, the expansion of Brazilian agribusiness to the continent strengthens national production. With a population of over 223 million — and one of the largest economies in Africa — Nigeria has imported more than USD 880 million in agricultural goods from Brazil in 2024.
MEXICO — Powdered and granulated eggs will be exported to Mexico, both for animal consumption. The partnership highlights the high level of international trust in the Brazilian health control system, and contributes to the increase in bilateral trade. In 2024, Mexico imported over USD 2.9 billion in agricultural products from Brazil, with emphasis on the animal protein, soy complex, forestry products and coffee sectors.
UNITED STATES — The Federal Government welcomed the announcement by the US government authorizing the export of macadamia nuts, cassava meal and coconut fiber from Brazil without the need for phytosanitary certification. In 2024, Brazil exported over USD 12 billion in agricultural products to the US market. The top contributing sectors are coffee, beverages, forestry products, cocoa products and meats. Expanded market access for new products should especially benefit small and medium-sized Brazilian producers, who will be able to access high value-added markets.
EXPANSION OF PARTNERSHIPS — These breakthroughs were made possible by the collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock [Ministério da Agricultura e Pecuária/MAPA] and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs [Ministério das Relações Exteriores/MRE] and reaffirm the Federal Government's commitment to international partnerships.
