The National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico/CNPq) will invest BRL 215 million (USD 39 million) in international scientific cooperation projects and scholarships for Brazilian researchers abroad. This represents a 26% increase from last year's BRL 170 million investment. Applications must be submitted by August 9, with final results expected to be published in November.

Prospective applicants may compete in three categories: 1) collaborative research projects with established international partners; 2) individual proposals from researchers within 10 years of earning their doctoral degrees; and 3) individual proposals from researchers currently holding active CNPq Junior Postdoctoral (Pós-Doutorado Júnior/PDJ) or Senior Postdoctoral (Pós-Doutorado Sênior/PDS) scholarships.

This public call specifies the investment of at least 10% of funds in cooperation projects involving research groups and networks from Latin American, Caribbean and African countries. Additionally, 20% of the funds will be earmarked for projects associated with institutions in Brazil’s North, Northeast and Central-West regions.

Out of the total allocated funds, BRL 200 million (USD 36.2 million) will be allocated to scholarships, while BRL 15 million (USD 2.7 million) will cover expenses with travel, daily allowances, insurance, consumable materials, services and incidental import costs, exclusively for Category (1) applicants, starting in 2025.

Category (1) collaborative research projects may receive up to BRL 300,000 (USD 54,400) per proposal. Individual proposals in Category (2) are capped at BRL 200,000 (USD 36,200), within the 12-month duration limit for the Postdoctoral Fellowship Abroad (Pós-Doutorado no Exterior/PDE). For Category (3), individual proposals can receive up to BRL 80,000 (USD 14,500), with a 3-month duration limit for the Senior Technological Development and Innovation Abroad (Desenvolvimento Tecnológico e Inovação no Exterior Sênior/DES) fellowship. During this period, the PDJ or PDS fellowship is temporarily suspended and will be resumed upon the researcher's return.
