Lula welcomes Princess Kako of Akishino, niece of Emperor Naruhito of Japan, in Brasilia

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received, on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 11, Princess Kako of Akishino, niece of Emperor Naruhito and second daughter of Prince Fumihito.
Princess Kako of Akishino is visiting Brazil as part of the celebrations marking 130 years of Brazil-Japan diplomatic relations and the “Year of Brazil-Japan Exchange and Friendship,” established during the visit of then Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to Brazil in 2024.
The President recalled his State visit to Japan last March and highlighted the Japanese Imperial Family’s commitment to promoting the bilateral relations.
ENVIRONMENTAL AGENDA — The princess reiterated the warm welcome she has received from the Brazilian people and expressed her admiration for the country’s beauty. Both agreed on the central importance of the environmental agenda and the significance of Brazil and Japan working together for the success of COP30 in Belém.
