2026 Symposium on Space and Ground Based Integrated Observations of the Space Environment in the South Atlantic Anomaly
First Announcement
Date: September 21–23, 2026
Venue: INPE, São José dos Campos, São Paulo State, Brazil
I. Background and Objectives
The South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) is the region where the Earth's inner radiation belt comes closest to the surface. It is a key area of interest for space environment exploration, space weather research, and operational support. The SAA holds strategic importance for the development of space science, the safety of in-orbit satellites, and space weather warning services in both China and Brazil.
To deepen Sino-Brazilian cooperation in space science, and building upon the International Meridian Circle Program (IMCP), the 2026 Symposium on Space Environment of the South Atlantic Anomaly – Integrated Space-Ground Monitoring will be jointly organized by the National Space Science Center (NSSC), Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) of Brazil, to be held in Brazil in September 2026.
The symposium aims to establish an academic exchange platform for the Chinese, Brazilian, and global space science communities, to share recent achievements, technological progress, and development plans regarding the SAA space environment, to promote the coordinated development of China-Brazil space-based and ground-based joint observation, and to foster international cooperation and technological innovation in space science.
