The Library Division announces the “First Access Session to CAS SciFinder,” a meeting aimed at institutions with access to databases through the CAPES Journal Portal. INPE has access to the full content package. However, to date, use of these resources has not yet begun. As CAPES conducts periodic usage evaluations, there is a risk that this access may be discontinued due to lack of use.

CAS SciFinder is a search tool for scientific and technological information developed by the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), providing access to information in the areas of Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry; Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Processing, Paints and Coatings; Sanitary Engineering, Air and Water Pollution, Waste Treatment; Environmental Sciences; Health Sciences, Pharmacology, Toxicology; Experimental Medicine; Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Proteomics; Biochemistry, Microbiology, Enzymology; Food Science; Physics, Materials Chemistry and Engineering, Polymers, Elastomers, Alloys, Ceramics, and more.

By accessing CAS SciFinder, searches can be performed in three different ways: references, substances, and chemical reactions.

  • Reference searches include patent documents, scientific articles, theses, books, clinical cases, reports, conference proceedings, and more.
  • Substance searches can be carried out using chemical structures, substance names, CAS Registry Numbers, molecular formulas, and properties.
  • Reaction searches provide results on reagents, products, solvents, catalysts, and reaction conditions.

CAS SciFinder also provides regulatory information, such as patent records (PatentPak), biological activity, target molecules, patents containing Markush structures, prior art, supplier catalogs for starting materials, retrosynthetic analysis, and much more.

First access to CAS SciFinder can be completed through the link: https://www.periodicos.capes.gov.br/index.php/scifinder.html

You must provide your institutional email address and wait for validation, which will be sent directly by CAS.

To support first-time access and demonstrate the benefits these resources can provide to faculty, students, and researchers, two one-hour sessions will be held with the following objectives:

  • Demonstrate how to complete the first login
  • Present the available content
  • Show how the portal can support academic and scientific activities

The session is open to the entire community and a certificate of participation will be issued. Choose the most convenient date and register:

  • February 19 at 2:00 PM:
