CAPES Transformative Agreements with IEEE and ACS

CAPES Transformative Agreements with IEEE and ACS

The transformative agreements are an innovation in the hiring of scientific institutions and publishers, projected to facilitate the transition of the signature access transition to the Open Access models. These agreements are strategic to surpass financial and structural barriers, aiming to integrate signature and publishing costs. Therefore, promoting a more sustainable and accessible system to the dissemination of research.

CAPES published on April 30th of 2024 the Ordinance No. 120/2024, which defines the payment rules of the Article Processing Charges (APC), for open access publications. The initiative is part of the Scientific Information Dissemination Support Program (Padict), created in December of 2023, by the Ordinance No. 275/2023.

The payment of the processing taxes for the scientific articles publications of Brazilian author will occur from contracts signed by CAPES with international scientific publishers. The objective is to give visibility and promote the access to the national scientific and technological production, apart from reassure the equality of opportunities amongst scientists and guaranteeing the divulgation of quality research accomplished in Brazil.

CURRENT AGREEMENTS:

CAPES consortium – IEEE

Since Novemeber of 2024, CAPES and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Incorporated (IEEE) signed the contract for the payment of the Article Processing Charges in the publications of the North-American publisher. The initiative is part of the Transformative Agreements signed by the Foundation with the objective to democratize the access to journals and the high level scientific research.

Amongst the publisher’s titles available for submission, IEEE Access stands out, a journal with 100% of its content opened and of relevant interest by part of the Brazilian researchers for the results publication of their research.

CAPES consortium - ACS

Brazilian researchers have the possibility to publish their articles in the American Chemical Society (ACS) journals, in open access and without any cost, after the due approval of the pair revision process. The agreement between CAPES and ACS expands even more the number of institutions that are going to have access to the contents of the publisher in Brazil.

This deed intend to speed up the research, not only by giving access to relevant journals on Chemistry and correlated areas, but also to make possible that the Brazilian authors may expand the visibility of their research through the open access publication.
