New FUNAG release covers the Chaco War and Brazilian diplomacy
The Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation has just launched a new title in its Diplomatic History collection: O Brasil e a Geopolítica da Guerra do Chaco [Brazil and the Geopolitics of the Chaco War], by Gustavo Eberle de Carvalho.
The book examines the conflict between Bolivia and Paraguay, which took place between 1932 and 1935, highlighting Brazil's diplomatic involvement in the war. This episode had a major regional impact and caused concern for Brazilian diplomacy, given the risk of the conflict expanding and the dispute over hegemony in the Southern Cone with Argentina. Although the Chaco question began as a secondary issue for Brazil, it evolved into one of the main concerns of Brazilian foreign policy during the Getúlio Vargas presidency.
The book is available for free in the digital library and can also be purchased in print from the online store.
