New FUNAG book analyses the concept of common heritage of humankind on the seabed
FUNAG has just published the book International Lawyers and the Uses of the Notion of Common Heritage of Humankind as Applied to the Deep Seabed (1967–1994), by George Rodrigo Bandeira Galindo.
Originally written in Portuguese and based on a doctoral thesis, this publication seeks to reach a wider audience in English, as it discusses the concept of the common heritage of humankind as applied to the seabed in international law.
The author highlights the recent Agreement on Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction, the debates on the exploitation of mineral resources on the deep seabed, and the lack of a specific intellectual history of this concept from the perspective of international law.
The publication is available free of charge from FUNAG's digital library.
