Academic Congress on National Defense (CADN)
WHAT IS IT?
The Academic Congress on National Defense (CADN) is an annual activity promoted by the Brazilian Defense College (ESD), in partnership with the Armed Forces Officer Training Schools: Military Academy of Agulhas Negras (AMAN), Air Force Academy (AFA), and Naval Academy (EN).
MAIN OBJECTIVES
- Encourage interaction amongst students and teachers from military schools and civilian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), participating in the event;
- Awaken civilian participants’ interest in topics related to national security and defense;
- Encourage participants to reflect on current problems of interest to Defense; and
- Contribute to the dissemination of defense issues within Brazilian society.
WHO PARTICIPATES?
Authors divided into teams, made up of a teacher (professor) or a doctorate student and undergraduate students of Brazilian HEIs accredited by the Ministry of Education, of Armed Forces Officer Training Schools, of Aeronautics Institute of Technology (ITA, in Portuguese), of the Engineering Military Institute (IME, in Portuguese) and of the Air Force University (UNIFA, in Portuguese).
• As for the Teams, they must contain a maximum of 5 (five) authors and a minimum of 3 (three) authors, including the supervisor author.
• The supervisor must be a professor with a teaching position at an HEI, with a minimum degree of M.S., a master’s degree recognized by CAPES.
• In addition to professors with ties to HEIs, doctoral and postdoctoral students will be allowed to be the supervisor of their Teams.
• In addition to the supervisor, the other authors must be undergraduate students, all over 18 years of age.
• The registration of the same supervisor author, as well as undergraduate students, in 2 (two) or more different Teams will not be permitted.
• Aiming for greater diversity, with different HEIs, the participation of authors linked to different HEIs in the co-authorship of the same article will be allowed, with the supervisor author being responsible for coordinating and communicating the Team with the CADN Organization.
SELECTION OF THE SUBMITTED ARTICLES
As a result of a double-blind peer to peer review, the Authors whose scientific articles obtain the best grades will be selected, up to the stipulated limit of places. As a result of the selection of scientific articles, the qualified teams will be rewarded with the participation in the Congress, including the opportunity to present the articles to the other participants, as well as round-trip transportation, accommodation, food and health care during the period of the event.

• Defense and society;
• New technologies and strategic aspects of the conflict;
• Biosafety, bioprotection and chemical, radiological and nuclear safety;
• Defense Industrial Base and the Armed Forces;
• Peace missions;
• International humanitarian law;
• Operational Research in Security, Development and Defense.
Despite the areas above, there will be two Special Thematic Sessions:
1. Models and methods for multi-criteria analysis and decision-making applied to security, development and defense;
2. Simulation, serious games and gamification applied to the defense area.
