Deputy Commander
When appointed to the position of Deputy Commander at the Brazilian Defense College, Rear Admiral Leonardo Braga Martins was serving in the Directorate-General for Nuclear and Technological Development of the Navy (DGDNTM), headquartered in São Paulo – SP;
He was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral on March 31, 2025.
Born in 1973, in the city of Rio de Janeiro – RJ, he is the son of Beneir de Souza Martins and Celia Braga Martins;
He joined the ranks of the Brazilian Navy on March 1, 1990, at the Naval High School (CN), located in Angra dos Reis – RJ;
In 1993, he was declared midshipman at the Naval School (EN), and, in 1996, ensign at the Naval School (EN), located in Rio de Janeiro – RJ;
In 1996, he was declared ensign at EN;
In 2000, he completed the Submarine Improvement Course for Officers at the Attila Monteiro Aché Instruction and Training Center;
In 2009, he completed his master’s degree in Defense and Civil Security at the Fluminense Federal University;
In 2011, he took over as the Commander of the Patrol Ship Macau;
In 2014, he took the General Staff Course for Senior Officers (C-EMOS) at the Naval War College (EGN) and the Specialization Course in Business Management at the COPPEAD Institute of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ);
In 2016, he completed the Specialization Course in Applied Neurosciences at UFRJ;
In 2017, he took over as the Commander of the Submarine Timbira;
In 2021, he completed the Maritime Policy and Strategy Course (C-PEM) at the Naval War College (EGN), in Rio de Janeiro - RJ;
In 2022, he assumed the role of Head of the Technical Office of the Submarine Development Program (ET-PROSUB) in France;
In 2024, he assumed the role of Advisor at the General Directorate of Nuclear and Technological Development of the Navy (DGDNTM); and
He was awarded the Sailor Merit Medal (3 anchors), the Tamandaré Merit Medal, the Military Medal and Gold Clasp (3 decades) and the Medal of the Order of Naval Merit (Officer).
