Between January and November 2021, more than 12,000 organ transplants were performed in Brazil. These numbers place our country as the second in the world ranking, behind the US. Even with the upheavals due to the pandemic, donation activities continued.

Even though there was a drop to 2020 - when 13,000 transplants were registered - about 60% of the procedures were maintained. In some countries, the donation processes came to a complete halt because of Covid-19.

The Brazilian public health network provides patients with necessary assistance, including preparatory exams, surgery, and post-transplant care. These are all guaranteed by the world's largest public health system, SUS.

In Brazil, the responsibility for deciding whether to donate organs or tissues rests with the patient's relatives. It is also essential that the patient, still alive, expresses the desire to the family to be a donor.
