This 5th of December, Brazil once more celebrates International Volunteer Day with efforts and dedication to serve those in need, strengthen local communities, and protect the most vulnerable in Brazilian society.

Since 2019, the Brazilian Government maintains a special program to engage public institutions, private companies and the whole of society in the promotion of volunteer work. The program is called Voluntary Homeland and is coordinated by Brazilian First-Lady, Michelle Bolsonaro.

In two years, the Voluntary Homeland Program was able to gather 17 thousand individual volunteers and engage more than 2 thousand institutions to serve around 1.6 million Brazilians in need of any kind of aid. Over 1,400 tons of food were donated since the beginning of pandemic.

In order to stimulate volunteer work, the Program also includes the Incentive to Volunteer Work Accreditation Seal as well as the National Award for the Incentive to Volunteer Work, granted every year to people and organizations who promote relevant volunteer activities.
