ANTT leads Brazilian delegation at Mercosur meeting and consolidates progress for the future of land transport
With a focus on practical results and strengthening regional integration, Mercosur's Working Subgroup No. 5 (SGT-5) — responsible for issues related to land transport — closed, last Wednesday (5/6), the meeting for the first half of 2025, held in Buenos Aires, under the pro tempore presidency of Argentina. The National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) was at the head of the Brazilian delegation, which also included representatives of the Federal Revenue of Brazil (RFB), Federal Highway Police (PRF) and public companies linked to the sector.
During two days of intense debates, the representatives of the bloc's member and associate countries — Jorge Alberto Zarbo (Argentina), Mr. Enrique Ponce de León Mendieta (Bolivia), Mr. Cálicles Mânica (Brazil), Mr. Pablo Ortiz (Chile), Mr. Luis Fernando Gonzáles Ocampos (Paraguay) and Ms. Fernanda Ouviña (Uruguay) — built consensus and defined strategies to drive concrete improvements in international land transport. Among the highlights, progress was made on sensitive issues, such as the harmonization of vehicle weights and dimensions, real-time information exchange, road safety and the transport of dangerous goods.
"This meeting was more than a technical alignment: it was a decisive step towards safer, more integrated and efficient land transport for all of South America. ANTT is committed to representing Brazil responsibly, proposing solutions and defending advances that directly impact people's lives and regional economic growth", said Cálicles Mânica, the Agency's representative at the meeting.
One of the milestones of the event was Brazil's official position for the repeal of GMC Resolution No. 35/19, which regulates speed limiters, considered a technical obstacle by several countries in the bloc. New rounds of tests were also scheduled between Brazil and Argentina to exchange real-time data on cargo transport — a measure that should increase the inspection and security of logistics operations throughout the region.
Another important advance was the alignment between Brazil, Argentina and Chile for the development of specific trilateral agreements on the weights and dimensions of cargo vehicles, promoting more uniformity and predictability in border crossings.
The agenda also brought to the table discussions on sustainability in transport, gender equality in the sector and harmonization of inspection procedures, reinforcing Mercosur's commitment to modern, fair and responsible mobility.
The next round of technical debates of SGT-5 will be conducted under the coordination of the Pro Tempore Presidency of Brazil, in the second half of 2025. For ANTT, this will be another strategic moment to lead transformative agendas, uniting innovation, security and regulatory integration.
By strengthening institutional ties and leading technical initiatives that have a direct impact on the daily life of cargo and passenger transport, the Agency reaffirms its role as a protagonist in strengthening South American land logistics — with responsibility, a vision of the future and a focus on the citizen.
