New Market Access for Brazilian Chia in Paraguay
Following successful phytosanitary negotiations between the Brazilian and Paraguayan governments, Brazil is now authorized to export chia seeds to Paraguay.
This market expansion creates significant opportunities for small and medium-sized rural producers, particularly in Brazil’s Midwest region, western Paraná, and northwestern Rio Grande do Sul, where chia cultivation is a vital source of income.
In 2024, Brazil’s agricultural exports to Paraguay reached approximately US$963 million, underscoring the importance of this partnership.
This achievement reflects the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) in advancing Brazil’s global agribusiness presence.
