Minister Carlos Fávaro Concludes Mission to Mexico with Key Gains for Brazilian Agribusiness
MEXICO MISSION
After two days of official engagements in Mexico, which concluded on Thursday evening (28) in Mexico City, Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, highlighted significant achievements for Brazilian agribusiness.
“We are wrapping up our mission to Mexico with very positive news. This joint effort is delivering results and will further strengthen and expand our bilateral relations,” said the minister.
Brazil’s successful experience in combating hunger was one of the central topics during the mission and was discussed in a meeting between Minister Fávaro and Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum.
Among the key outcomes were the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and Mexico’s Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) to deepen technical cooperation, as well as a Declaration of Intent on biofuels.
Bilateral meetings with Mexico’s Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, Julio Berdegué; Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard; and Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, advanced discussions on updating and modernizing trade agreements between the two countries (ACEs 53 and 55). The agenda also reinforced Mexico’s Anti-Inflation and Scarcity Program (Pacic), ensuring a stable flow of Brazilian exports and the opening of new markets.
As part of the agreements, Brazil will now be able to export bovine and swine meal to Mexico, while authorizing the import of Mexican tuna products.
The Mexican government also committed to implementing a regionalization protocol in the event of avian influenza, so that any restrictions on Brazilian poultry exports would be limited to the affected area. Mexico agreed to evaluate such cases within ten days to maintain safe and uninterrupted trade.
In addition, Mexican audits are scheduled in the coming months to authorize new Brazilian beef, poultry, and pork plants for export to Mexico.
The mission, led by Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, included high-level government meetings and business forums with the participation of more than 350 Brazilian and Mexican entrepreneurs.
The Brazilian delegation also included Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet; President of ApexBrasil, Jorge Viana; and Mapa’s Secretary of Trade and International Relations, Luís Rua.
