Mapa’s Vietnam mission strengthens ties and explores new market opportunities
From February 13 to 15, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (Mapa) wrapped up a successful mission to Vietnam, cementing trade bonds and exploring new avenues for Brazilian agribusiness. Marcel Moreira Pinto, Mapa’s Deputy Secretary of Trade and International Relations, led the team, joined by members of the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (ABIEC), the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), and exporters.
In Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital, the delegation met Vietnam’s top officials—Prime Minister Pham Minh Chính, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Phung Duc Tien. They discussed agricultural investment and steps to bring Brazilian beef, pork, and poultry to Vietnamese markets.
The delegation also connected with private-sector leaders, such as the Vietnam Retailers Association (AVR), importers, and distributors. These discussions revealed fresh business prospects, reinforcing Brazil’s drive to expand its global footprint and deepen strategic partnerships.
Trade with Vietnam is thriving. In 2023, bilateral trade reached US$6.8 billion, with a target of US$10 billion by 2030. Last year, Vietnam became Brazil’s fifth-largest agribusiness market.
Beyond core exports like corn, cotton, and meat, new opportunities are emerging. In January 2025, Vietnam greenlit pet food imports with animal ingredients from Brazil, boosting the nation’s pet food industry. This milestone underscores Brazil’s rising competitiveness in Asia.
The mission to Vietnam reaffirms Mapa’s resolve to expand agricultural markets access, enhance agricultural competitiveness, and empower Brazil’s producers and exporters.
