Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock strengthens agricultural cooperation with Angola
From May 5 to 10, a Brazilian delegation led by the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, is carrying out a series of official meetings and technical visits to rural areas in Angola to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector.
The mission follows the signing of a Letter of Intent in December 2023 between Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and Angola’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (Minagrif), aimed at promoting trade and investment in agribusiness. The agreement provides a framework for identifying, developing, and implementing strategic agricultural projects, while fostering stronger bilateral relations.
As part of this commitment, the Mapa delegation, joined by Brazilian agribusiness leaders, will assess the investment climate in Angola’s agricultural sector and explore opportunities for technical cooperation that support global food security.
In Luanda, Minister Fávaro will hold meetings with government officials and private sector stakeholders. Field visits will take place in the provinces of Malanje and Cuanza Norte, including stops at grain and livestock farms, the Angolan Bioenergy Company (Biocom), and the Capanda Agroindustrial Hub (PAC).
Joining the delegation are the Minister’s Special Adviser, Carlos Ernesto Augustin, and Mapa’s Director of Foreign Investment Promotion, André Okubo. The business mission includes approximately 30 representatives from Brazilian agribusiness companies from across the country.
“Angola is an important partner for Brazil. At President Lula’s direction, we are working to strengthen our ties and expand our trade flows,” said Minister Fávaro.
He also highlighted Angola’s potential in fertilizer and nitrogen production, which could benefit Brazil through commercial partnerships. Likewise, agricultural research and technologies developed by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) could contribute to the sustainable growth of Angola’s agribusiness sector.
Later this month, Angolan President João Lourenço will return to Brazil. Angola will also participate in the Meeting of African Ministers of Agriculture, to be held in Brasília from May 20 to 22.
