Brazilian agribusiness exports hit record high, reaching USD 14.19 billion in September

In September, Brazilian agribusiness exports reached an all-time high of USD 14.19 billion, marking a 3.6% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This growth in foreign sales was largely driven by increased export volumes.

According to the Secretariat of Trade and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), the top exporting sectors included the soybean complex, meat, the sugar-alcohol complex, forest products, cereals, flours and preparations, and coffee. These six sectors accounted for 84.6% of total agribusiness exports.

Luis Rua, Secretary of Trade and International Relations, noted that September’s record-breaking figures were also a result of new market access secured for Brazilian agricultural products in recent months. "When we open new markets for production chains that previously didn’t export much, we create new opportunities and stimulate other markets," Rua said.

KEY AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS

Meat exports were a standout, with beef leading the way. In September 2024, beef exports reached USD 1.25 billion, an increase of 29.2% compared to the same month the previous year. Exports of fresh beef also set a record, with 251,760 metric tons shipped (+29.1%). China remained the largest importer of Brazilian beef.

The sugar-alcohol complex exported USD 1.92 billion in September 2024 (+6.4%), with sugar being the primary product, making up nearly 95% of the sector's total exports. Raw cane sugar shipments reached a record 3.47 million tons (+25.9%) for the month.

Forest products, including cellulose, paper, and wood, also performed strongly. Cellulose exports surpassed USD 1 billion, setting a record for September. The most industrialized nations were the primary buyers of Brazilian cellulose.

Green coffee was another highlight, with exports rising from USD 573.84 million in September 2023 to USD 1.07 billion in September 2024 (+86.6%), setting a record for the month. The volume shipped also hit an all-time high, with 243,100 tons exported.

12-MONTH RESULTS (September 2023 - August 2024)

In the twelve months from October 2023 to September 2024, Brazilian agribusiness exports totaled USD 166.19 billion, a 1.8% increase compared to the USD 163.19 billion exported in the previous twelve-month period.
