Brazil Secures Access to Ten New International Markets for Agricultural Exports

The Brazilian government has successfully concluded ten new agricultural trade agreements this week with six international partners: the Bahamas, Cameroon, South Korea, Costa Rica, Japan, and Peru. These new market openings cover a diverse range of agricultural products, including beef, pork, poultry and their derivatives, bovine genetic material, poultry genetic material, fish oil, and corn ethanol by-products.

In the Bahamas, local authorities approved the sanitary certification for the import of beef, pork, poultry, and their products from Brazil. This decision reflects the high level of trust in Brazil’s sanitary control system and is expected to contribute to strengthening food security for the Bahamian population.

In Cameroon, Brazilian exporters are now authorized to supply live cattle for breeding purposes and bovine genetic material, which will support the development of local livestock production and open new opportunities for Brazilian agribusiness on the African continent.

In South Korea, authorities approved the import of poultry genetic material (fertile eggs and day-old chicks), reaffirming Brazil’s global leadership in the poultry sector and the international recognition of the country’s standards for quality, biosecurity, and traceability.

In Costa Rica, Brazilian exports of dried distillers’ grains (DDG and DDGS)—a high-protein by-product of corn ethanol production used in animal feed—have been authorized. This outcome reflects not only Brazil’s productive capacity but also the country’s commitment to sustainable bioenergy production.

In Japan, sanitary authorities approved the import of fish oil produced in Brazil, further demonstrating Japan’s confidence in Brazil’s rigorous sanitary standards.

In Peru, authorities approved the import of chilled and frozen tilapia fillets from Brazil. This achievement is expected to expand opportunities for Brazil’s aquaculture sector, given Peru’s significant demand for seafood products.

With these recent agreements, Brazilian agribusiness has secured access to 381 new international markets since the beginning of 2023.

These results are the outcome of coordinated efforts between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), reflecting Brazil’s commitment to expanding its global agricultural footprint and strengthening international trade partnerships.
