Brazil gains market access for citrus products in India

The governments of Brazil and India have successfully concluded negotiations to allow the export of five Brazilian citrus products to the Indian market: Tahiti lime (Citrus latifolia), Sicilian lemon (Citrus limon), sweet orange (Citrus sinensis), and tangerines and related varieties (Citrus reticulata and Citrus deliciosa).

Since 2023, six other Brazilian agricultural products have gained access to India: açaí powder, açaí juice, farmed fish (aquaculture), wild-caught fish, bone derivatives for gelatin production, and avocado.

India ranks as the 10th largest destination for Brazilian agricultural exports, with trade exceeding USD 3 billion last year. Leading export items include products from the sugar and ethanol complex, soy, and textile fibers. With the opening of the citrus market, bilateral trade is expected to strengthen further, especially through the export of higher value-added products.

With this announcement, Brazil reaches its 55th market access in 2025, totaling 355 new trade opportunities since the beginning of 2023.

These outcomes reflect the coordinated efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) to expand Brazil’s global presence in agricultural trade.
