About the event location
The GPAI Innovation Workshop Rio de Janeiro will be held at the facilities of the Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas (CBPF). Located in the charming neighborhood of Urca, in the southern zone of Rio de Janeiro, the CBPF is close to several of the city's most iconic tourist attractions.
The CBPF also holds historical significance in the development of Brazil's scientific infrastructure, as the Laboratório Nacional de Computação Científica (LNCC) was created within the institution in the 1980s. Today, the LNCC stands as a key partner, reinforcing a long-standing collaboration in science and technology.
As part of the network of scientific institutions under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), the CBPF further strengthens the connection between the event and Brazil’s national science and technology ecosystem, offering an environment that integrates academic excellence with cutting-edge research.

The Artificial Intelligence Institute of the Laboratório Nacional de Computação Científica (IIA-LNCC) participates in the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), one of the leading global initiatives dedicated to the responsible, inclusive, and innovative development of Artificial Intelligence. GPAI brings together experts, governments, and international institutions to foster cooperation, innovation, and public policies focused on the future of AI.
One of GPAI’s main initiatives is the Innovation Workshop (IW), an annual event that gathers international experts to discuss trends, challenges, and strategic AI projects. Following editions held in Quebec, Paris, and Tokyo, Brazil has been selected as a candidate host for the IW GPAI 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, strengthening the country’s role in global discussions on Artificial Intelligence.
The 2026 edition will focus on the following discussion themes:
