Mission
To contribute, based on research evidence, to the inclusive development of thinking on foreign policy, with a view to enriching public debate and fostering critical reflection.
Objectives
I. To promote, encourage, and support research and the dissemination of works on topics relevant to international relations and Brazilian foreign policy;
II. to contribute, based on evidence-based data, to the formation of critical opinion and to decision-making; and
III. to give visibility to contemporary issues in international relations and foreign policy through research summaries that present recommendations and outline policy implementation perspectives based on the analyzed data.
Thematic Axes
IPRI Policy Briefs publishes articles on the following themes: cooperation and themes of the international agenda; multilateralism and global governance; Brazil and the world -Brazilian foreign policy.
Target Audience
Policymakers, diplomats, academics, specialists, researchers, public employee in a a broad sense, civil society, and others interested in discussing international relations and Brazilian foreign policy.
Periodicity
IPRI Policy Briefs is an annual publication organized by the International Relations Research Institute (IPRI) and published by the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation (FUNAG). In addition to the two annual issues, special editions may occasionally be released.
Note: The first issue was published in 2025. The journal is available in both print and electronic formats, in open access, on FUNAG’s official website - Digital Library.
Open Access Policy
The journal provides free, full, and immediate access to its content, based on the principle that the free availability of scientific knowledge to the public enhances the global democratization of knowledge.
Digital Preservation Policy
IPRI Policy Briefs is preserved in the following services: National Library of Brazil (BN); Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation Digital Library (FUNAG); and the Internet Archive. Preservation and dissemination services may be expanded at any time to other repositories, in accordance with the journal’s management and dissemination policy.
Standards for Bibliographic References
IPRI Policy Briefs follows the ABNT standard for texts written in Portuguese. For articles written in foreign languages, such as English and Spanish, the use of the Chicago style is recommended.
Privacy Policy
The names and addresses provided to this journal will be used exclusively for the services of this publication and will not be made available for other purposes.
Open Access, Publication Fees, and Licensing Policy
IPRI Policy Briefs follows the Creative Commons (CC BY-NC) license, which allows remixing, adaptation, and the creation of derivative works from the original, provided that they are not used for commercial purposes. New works must give proper credit to the author(s).
The journal provides open, free, and immediate access to its content, based on the principle that free access to scientific knowledge broadens the democratization of knowledge on a global scale.
Thus, no fees are charged for publication or for accessing the journal’s articles.
IPRI Policy Briefs does not allow the use or reproduction of any part of its articles for training artificial intelligence (AI) technologies or systems.

On the Editorial Process
The submission process for each article submitted to IPRI Policy Briefs must follow the steps below:
I. Preliminary analysis to verify compliance with the journal’s submission criteria;
II. Desk review within 30 days after submission, conducted by the Editor-in-Chief with the support of members of the Scientific Editorial Board, to determine acceptance;
III. Submission of articles approved in the desk review to reviewers under the supervision of the Associate Editors;
IV. Preparation of reviewers’ reports within 30 days from receipt of the article;
V.After receiving the reports, the Associate Editor forwards them to the Editor-in-Chief for final evaluation and decision;
VI. Communication of the reports to the author;
VII. Return of the revised article by the author within 30 days, incorporating the requested changes;
VIII. If required, the revised article is submitted for a new evaluation by the reviewer, who must return it within 15 days;
IX. Assignment of the article to a specific issue and communication to the author;
X. Submission of the approved article for copyediting and formatting;
XI. Final approval of the formatted version for publication.
The deadlines mentioned in items II, IV, VII, and VIII may be adjusted by the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors to ensure the proper editorial workflow of the journal.
The FUNAG Style Manual will guide the revision of articles by the IPRI/FUNAG technical team.
Submission Standards
IPRI Policy Briefs publishes articles produced within the “Contemporary IPRI Research” Group, which are subject to prior desk review and subsequent evaluation by two to three reviewers.
