Brazil and Mexico step forward in health cooperation
Mutual collaboration was one of the topics addressed during the Brazilian delegation's visit
During a visit to Mexico by Brazilian Health Ministry delegation, the two countries discussed new opportunities to strengthen health cooperation, including the partnership between the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa) and the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris).
Discussions were concentrated on topics such as conducting joint assessments of advanced therapy products, collaborating on clinical research and active pharmaceutical ingredients, assessment regarding the WHO Listed Authority (WLA), and sharing experiences in defining medicine prices.
The authorities also addressed the possibility of mutual procedures for drug registration by Brazilian and Mexican companies, involving joint evaluations by both agencies. This initiative aims to foster the exchange of knowledge among technical teams, enhance understanding of each country's regulatory processes, and strengthen trust between the authorities.
The joint evaluation proposal would enhance cooperation, develop regulatory reliance mechanisms and strengthen the role of health authorities in the region.
Cooperation between Anvisa and Cofepris has been built over more than two decades and was reinforced by the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions in 2025. The partnership comprises the exchange of information and experience, as well as identifying opportunities for cooperation.
