On the first day of the World Travel Market (WTM) Latin America 2026, Minister of Tourism Gustavo Feliciano presented the emergency measure adopted by the Brazilian Government to address the impacts of rising international fuel prices on the aviation sector: the temporary elimination of taxes on aviation fuel. The initiative was shared with Latin American authorities as a direct response to tensions in the Middle East, which have been driving up costs and affecting global tourism.
The measure drew immediate interest. Mexican tourism representative Miguel Rodriguez received a copy of the document and praised the initiative. “I will take this proposal to Mexico, as these are measures that benefit tourists and can also benefit our citizens,” he said. Mexico’s Ambassador to Brazil, Carlos Zepeda, attended the presentation.
In presenting the measure, the Minister highlighted the Brazilian Government’s agility in adopting solutions to mitigate the effects of the international crisis.
During a meeting with regional representatives, Gustavo Feliciano detailed the decree signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, which reduces to zero the PIS/Pasep and Cofins tax rates levied on aviation fuel. The measure was received as a practical example of a swift response to an adverse external scenario.
According to the Minister, the regional recognition reinforces the importance of cooperation in the face of global challenges. “I explained President Lula’s measures to reduce the impact of the war, and Miguel requested a copy to take to his country. He seemed impressed with the initiative,” Feliciano said.
The meeting is part of a series of activities by the Ministry of Tourism at WTM Latin America 2026, one of the sector’s leading events in the region, bringing together leaders, experts, and representatives from several countries to discuss the future of tourism. The event runs until April 16 and is consolidating its position as a strategic platform for promoting Brazil and strengthening international partnerships.
