President Lula speaks by phone with Chinese President Xi Jinping
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva spoke by phone with the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, on Monday evening, August 11.
During the hour-long call, the two leaders exchanged views on the international situation, including recent efforts to promote peace between Russia and Ukraine. Both emphasized the importance of the G20 and BRICS forums in defending multilateralism on the world stage.
President Lula also underscored the importance of China’s crucial role in the success of COP 30 and in combating climate change. President Xi indicated that China will be represented in Belém by a high-level delegation and will work with Brazil to ensure the conference’s success.
The heads of state also focused on their bilateral strategic partnership, welcoming progress made in aligning their national development programs. They committed to expanding the scope of cooperation to areas such as health, oil and gas, digital economy, and satellites.
Both presidents also emphasized their willingness to continue to explore new business opportunities between the two economies.
