With Chinese prime minister, Lula emphasizes excellent moment in bilateral relations

On Saturday, July 5, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang for a working meeting at the 17th BRICS Summit.
This encounter took place two months after President Lula's state visit to Beijing, where more than 30 agreements were signed. Both leaders underscored the excellent state of their bilateral relations and reviewed the implementation of synergies between their respective national development projects.
They emphasized the intensification of bilateral projects in science and technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and renewable energy. The leaders also acknowledged the strengthening of cooperation between Chinese and Brazilian shipyards.
AGRICULTURE – Regarding the agricultural trade agenda, the Chinese government committed to accelerating procedures for recognizing Brazil as free of avian influenza and free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination. China will also analyze a Brazilian proposal for regionalizing Brazilian animal origin certificates. Brazil emphasized its interest in expanding technical cooperation on agriculture, livestock, and telecommunications.
MULTILATERALISM - President Lula and Premier Li Qiang reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and peace. The two leaders agreed on the pivotal role of BRICS in defending multilateral trade and climate regimes.
COP30 - Reaffirming the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, Brazil and China emphasized the importance of increasing climate ambition in preparation for COP30 in Belém. In this context, Brazil requested China's support for launching the Tropical Forests Forever Fund (TFFF) at the upcoming climate conference. The TFFF aims to remunerate the ecosystem services provided by this biome.
MEMORANDUMS - During the meeting, two agreements were formalized: a Memorandum of Understanding on Financial Strategic Cooperation and a Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of the China-Brazil Center for Artificial Intelligence Application. Additionally, both nations announced the successful conclusion of negotiations for an Additional Protocol for the Joint Development of the CBERS-5 Geostationary Meteorological Satellite and a Memorandum of Understanding on the Second Phase of Synergy between National Development Programs.
