Lula and Prime Minister of Vietnam celebrate advancements in bilateral relations

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva held a work meeting with Vietnam’s Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh, this Saturday morning, July 5, in the context of the BRICS Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
The two leaders celebrated the excellent status of their bilateral relations as well as the progress made since President Lula’s State visit to Hanoi last April.
In this context, they also celebrated the conclusion of the first Brazilian shipment of bovine meat to Vietnam and the first export of Vietnamese tilapia to Brazil.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highlighted the importance of Brazilian investments in his country, particularly in the area of animal protein processing.
The two Heads of Government also underscored the potential for cooperation in the fields of agriculture, defense, sports, mining, biofuels, and environment.
President Lula reaffirmed the interest of Brazil’s MERCOSUR Presidency in opening negotiations for a commercial agreement with Vietnam.
Amidst the global escalation of protectionism, both leaders emphasized the importance of integration and complementarity between the two economies.
The two countries committed to promptly conducting business missions to expand reciprocal trade and investment opportunities.
The meeting also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation in Science, Technology, Innovation, and Digital Transformation.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister wished Brazil success during COP30 and confirmed his country’s participation in the event in Belém, Pará, in November.
