Lula and Prime Minister of Ethiopia underscore defense of multilateralism, commercial cooperation

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva held a work meeting with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali, this Saturday morning, July 5, in the context of the BRICS Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
At the meeting, both leaders reiterated the bloc’s role in defending multilateralism and reforming global governance institutions. They emphasized the importance of respecting international law and fostering conflict resolution.
They both reiterated the commitment to combating climate change, and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed confirmed that his country will participate actively in COP30, to be held in Belém, Pará, at the end of the year.

Regarding the bilateral agenda, they discussed the potential for cooperation in areas such as agriculture, mining, energy, industry, and the environment. They also highlighted the existence of a direct flight between São Paulo and Addis Ababa as an important asset to boost bilateral relations.
President Lula authorized a business mission to Ethiopia to further explore opportunities to intensify trade and bilateral investment.
Since December 2024, Brazil has had an agricultural attaché in Addis Ababa, who is responsible for assisting with the development of Agricultural Climate Risk Zoning projects for the entire African continent.
