Brazil’s Lula, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince discuss investments, climate change

On Friday, July 5, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva held a bilateral meeting with Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, on the sidelines of the BRICS Leaders' Summit.
The Brazilian President reiterated Brazil's interest in attracting foreign direct investment, highlighting opportunities in renewable energy, mining, petrochemicals, satellite communications, submarine cables, and manufacturing. He also advocated for expanding financial cooperation between the two nations.
President Lula underscored the commitment of Brazil's MERCOSUR Presidency to conclude the Trade Agreement with the United Arab Emirates by the end of the year.
The potential for cooperation in digital technologies, including artificial intelligence and the development of computational language models, was also a key point of discussion.
Both President Lula and the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince reaffirmed their support for multilateralism and a multipolar world order. They exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, exploring potential paths to peace in the region.
In the context of the climate crisis, they acknowledged the need for greater ambition in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Emirati Crown Prince highlighted his country's support for the upcoming COP30 in Belém, Pará.
Brazil also provided details on the Tropical Forests Forever Fund (TFFF), slated for launch at COP30. This initiative aims to remunerate the ecosystem services provided by this vital biome. The United Arab Emirates, as part of the Climate COPs Troika, expressed interest in continuing to work towards the realization of this initiative.
